A Methodology for a Coupled Structural - CFD Analysis of Compressor Rotor Blades Subjected to Ice Impact with Uncertain Impactor Parameters

Abstract A method for a coupled structural - Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis of compressor rotor blade subjected to an ice impact scenario is investigated assess the related deformations from and fluid-dynamics perspective. On basis probabilistic approach, in total 50 scenarios are derived this study. In first step numerical model based on Finite Elements (FE) discussed, including several parameter variations like location, diameter, density speed. Different steps subsequently carried out using LSDYNA implicit / explicit high performance computing (HPC) cluster. Resulting evaluated terms local plastic deformation, cup size modal parameters comparison undamaged reference structure. The resultant post-impact geometry extracted result data passed CFD simulation setup fully automated manner. Based deformed mesh data, fluid morphed via radial function (RBF) approach analysed with CFD. Finally, uncertainty quantification study performed variability results regard definition impactor.
